Research indicates that many current reading programs don’t fully address the needs of English learners. Second language literacy requires tailored strategies and special considerations.

In this course, you'll design lessons that help students exceed their assessed reading levels and foster a genuine excitement for literacy.

Learning Objectives

  • Review the research behind how oral language development impacts literacy

  • Analyze and apply the structures and practices of an effective oral language and literacy development lesson in your classroom

  • Implement whole group oral language and literacy development practices through interactive read-alouds and writing

  • Analyze mentor texts for linguistic demand
